Free radicals

Free radicals are oxygen-containing chemicals that impaired to have electron. The impaired electron makes free radicals highly reactive DNA, proteins, membranes and other cell machines causing oxidative damage including DNA mutations, protein dysfunction and destruction of the membrane and other cell structures. This oxidative damage aging promote and increase the risk of age-related diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, immune system falls, brain dysfunction and cataracts. Well-known free radicals, which are involved in the aging process are superoxide, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), hydroxyl radical (OH), Singlet oxygen, lipid epoxy resins, lipid peroxides, lipid Alkoyl Peroxyl radical and oxides of nitrogen. They are generated during our normal metabolism or introduced into our bodies from external sources.
The effective way to reduce free radical damage to the body is whole plant foods like cereals, vegetables and fruits which contain different types of potent antioxidants by eating.
